Metro LEADs

Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 8:00am – 12:00 Noon at University City UMC.

In his book On the Verge, Alan Hirsch quotes Abraham Lincoln who once observed, “The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew and act anew.”  This is, in part, the role of a leader - to guide, support, and equip us to address the “stormy present” by thinking and acting in new ways.  The gospel demands, and our world needs, lay and clergy leaders to do more than manage the status quo.  And as Tod Bolsinger argues, “For Christian leaders this means that ministry is not only the means to bring the gospel to the world, ministry together is how God makes a congregation into a corps that is ready to continually bring the gospel in new ways to a changing world.”

One of the missional strategies of our conference and district is to increase the leadership capacity of lay and clergy leaders so that we are more effective and fruitful in our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of lives, communities, and the world.  One of the upcoming opportunities we have for leadership development is the 2019 district leadership equipping event we’re calling Metro LEADs – Leading, Equipping and Discipling.

Metro LEADs will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 8:00am – 12:00 Noon at University City UMC.  Metro LEADs will provide an opportunity for lay and clergy leaders to gather for learning and conversation around our sacred calling to lead, equip, and disciple God’s people in “bringing the gospel in new ways to a changing world.”  Additional details about the event are below, so save the date, and I hope to see you there.
